The SmartCue System.
A complete framework for cueing and sequencing real-world bodies, built by physiotherapist Michael Henri and refined by master teacher Byron de Marsé, and taught to hundreds of yoga teachers since 2020.
Want to prepare for your next class? Every pose has a priority hierarchy, a Level 1–3 progression, modifications, and anatomical reasoning so you can create using the structure and teach with intention and presence from day one.
Why it exists
Most trainings teach the poses, without the structure.
A 200-hour yoga teacher training is an intensive and beautiful experience, with a lot of material to cover in a short time. Cueing is usually the part that gets least attention: a handful of phrases per pose, passed down, repeated, rarely explained. Ultimately you are left to figure it out on your own.
So you learn the shapes, and then you stand in front of a room and demo, hoping the room can follow, improvising a few words and hoping they make sense. There is another way. SmartCue is the part that was missing.

The four pillars
A working framework.
Every pose in SmartCue is built on the same four layers. Once you start learning the structure you’ll see the patterns and consistencies within the poses, and all of a sudden teaching becomes easier: more energy for your presence, your personality and your jokes.

01 · Priority Cues
Three-tier hierarchy.
Foundation first, then stability, then refinement. Students always know what to focus on, and teachers know what to say first.
02 · Level System
Level 1–3 progressions.
Every pose has entry points for new students, progressions for intermediate, and challenges for advanced, so a single class serves the whole room.
03 · Biomechanics
Anatomically reasoned.
Each stability cue explains why: which joint, which muscle action. This extends to the stimulation of fascial and meridian lines for Yin postures. Built by a physiotherapist so you can practise it and teach it safely without needing a clinical background.
04 · Modifications
Prep poses, props, alternatives.
Every advanced pose links back to the simpler shapes that build it. Real-world bodies need real-world options; SmartCue gives you a menu, not a rule.

Here’s a sample of the structure.
This is a real entry from the pose library. Cues are tiered by priority, and the underlined phrases open the explanation behind them. The action cues offer different wordings to choose from; click one to see. The More tab reveals Variations, Modifications, Benefits and How to Prepare for this pose.

- From Downward Dog, step the right foot near the right thumb
- Turn the back heel down so that the toes are facing 10 (or 2) o’clock
- Press down through the feet and lift up raising the arms overhead
- Keep the back leg strong
- Pull the lower belly in
- Roll your outer arms forward and reach through the fingertips
- Extend through the crown of the head

Clearer cueing, steadier sequencing, your own voice.
I’ve invested in a lot of courses over the years, but very few are ones I consistently come back to — this is one of them. My students constantly comment on the sequencing, the cueing, the focus on injury prevention, and the range of modifications.
As a new teacher, this has been an invaluable resource. Beyond helping me refine my cueing and sequencing, it has inspired me to become more confident and to develop my own authentic voice.
The platform offers so many valuable resources on subjects we don’t always have time to explore in depth during a training — sequencing, cueing, philosophy, anatomy. All of it has helped me deepen my knowledge and feel more confident guiding my classes and my students.
Who built SmartCue
Built by a physiotherapist and a master teacher.
Michael Henri and Byron de Marsé took the library apart one pose at a time, and rebuilt every entry the same way.

Michael Henri
Physiotherapist · Biomechanics
Came to yoga from the science side. He built the priority hierarchy by asking one question of every pose: how can we help someone move safely, with fewer words and clearer direction?

Byron de Marsé
Master teacher · 10,000+ hours
Brought the experience. Every cue was tested against what actually lands with real students mid-class, which is why the system reads as teaching language rather than clinical notes.
“The physical aspects of yoga are the first thing people want when they start practising. If we, as teachers, can get that right through clear cueing, sequencing and communication, then we open the door to more depth for anyone who practises with us.”

A closer look
More depth and details at your fingertips.
Each pose can be explored more deeply. Whether you want to know how long to hold a Yin pose, to the meridian lines that are stimulated. You can also identify the advanced progressions, or find alternative cues for stability to bring variety into what you say.
-

Yin, mapped to meridians
Every Yin pose carries its fascial lines, the meridians it stimulates, the recommended time to hold, or other variations or prop modification cues.
-

Advanced poses, with a way in
Level 2 and 3 poses link back to the simpler shapes that prepare the body for them, so you can sequence towards a peak.
-

More than one way to say it
